General Motors F Body Z Bar
General Motors part number 3973082082 Z bar
or equalizer was used on 1970 to 1981 F body
and at least one 75 X body car.
\
NOS Z-bar
This is a New Old Stock Camaro and Firebird
equalizer I have in my collection. It has a black
phosphate finish.
Curvy
This lever has a distinct offset to follow the curve
of the floor board. The curvy lever was adopted
by most other car lines in the mid seventies to
allow it to be "tucked up" close to the firewall.
Engine End
The tapped hole for the grease fitting is near the
lower push rod arm.The lower push rod arm is
curved toward the front of engine bay for
leverage
and features a gauge hole to aid in initial linkage
set up.
Outboard End
The upper push rod is straight. This end of the
center "pipe" has the machined step and groove
for ball stud and bushing retention.
Engine Stud Hole
There is a machined step approximately 1 3/8"
from the end.

Measurements
This is a hard part to get accurate measurements from,
but these will help in comparing to other Z-Bars at
swap meets. The main pipe is 10" end to end. The
curved lower push rod tab is approximately 4" from
the center of the pipe to the center of the rod hole.
The upper clutch push rod is about 4 1/4" center to
center.

Disclaimer:
Factory correct applications are your responsibility.
GM made part and part # changes with no rhyme but a reason (no production interruptions at any cost).
Application charts are for replacement parts that were available at the time of parts book printing.
My observations come from the parts I have in my collection or other reliable sources. Your parts may differ.
If Factory correctness is your goal, do more research, join car clubs and forums and buy an assembly manual if one is available for your Project Car (you wont be sorry).
This is a fun and interesting part of the hobby!
