68-72 Pontiac A Body Equalizer
The 1968-72 Pontiac A body (Tempest,Lemans,GTO) Clutch Bellcrank is a multi-piece unit made up of the
9792271 Countershaft, 9791016 Link, 9797165 Lever assembly, (2) 9791017 Pins, (2) 3702807 Washers and (2) Cotter pins.
The Engine side is attached using part # 9427314 bolt going through part # 9791018 bearing (bushing) in the lever with a 3702807 washer on each side of the bearing.


9792271Countershaft
The Pontiac Parts Catalog calls this the Counter shaft.

 

9797165  Lever
  The lever has both the 5/16" lower push rod hole and a nearly 3/4" hole for part # 9791018 bearing.
This lever has two "ears" with approximately 1/2" holes in each for pin part # 9791017 to pass through
and allows attachment of part # 979016 link. On the lower portion of this part is a hole for the anti-rattle spring.
This part number is discontinued.



9791016 Link
  This part is aptly named a link as it looks just like a three sided chain repair link
and is used to link the countershaft to the lever via two pins.
This part number is discontinued.



9791017
  There are two of these link pins used on this equalizer.
They are approximately 1/2" diameter with an overall length of 2",
a 5/8" diameter head and a hole for a cotter pin.
This part number is discontinued.



3702807Washer
This parts catalog calls for a 1/2" x 7/8" x 1/16" washer.
This washer goes under the cotter pin on both pins and
is also used on both sides of the part # 9791018 bearing.
This part # may still available from GM.



9427314 Bolt
  This bolt has a 12 point head with a C in the middle of three dashes (grade 5).
It has 1 1/2" of thread and a rounded chamfer on the bottom of the head.
This part number is discontinued.



9791018 Bearing
This part is more of a spacer that allows the "165" lever to swivel.
The used original I have has an outside diameter of 0.685,
an inside diameter of 0.513 and is 0.715 long.

FRAME SIDE PIVOT


Frame side Pivot
This picture shows the assembly order of the following parts.



9791019 Cup
This "cup" holds grease in and dirt out of the frame side
pivot and it is used as a stop for the inner seat on original
clutch bellcranks.


3743349 Seat
These inner and outer nylon seats act as a bearing
"race" that allows ball stud movement.
 

3935289 Stud
The frame side ball stud works like a knuckle joint
that compensates for engine movement.



3750696 Spring
This "spring" as the parts catalog calls it,
fits in a groove in the tube Z-Bar.
This holds the cup, 2 seats and the ball stud together.



3743360 Seal
This felt washer helps keep the grease in and
the dirt out of the frame side z bar pivot.

This is a 6 1/4" threaded rod used for clutch linkage
adjustment or "pedal free play".

This is the threaded nut that attaches the push rod
to the lever to facilitate clutch adjustment.

This clip secures the upper push rod to
the clutch pedal.


522277 Bushing
This nylon bushing fits in the clutch pedal, then the
clutch pedal push rod is inserted into it.


9791712 Rod
Upper push rod goes from clutch pedal (right end)
to part number 9792271 counter shaft left end).



3749084 Clip
This retainer is used for attachment of the upper
push rod to the counter shaft.
