Reproduction Parts

Buyer Beware

Reproduction parts are not all the same and prices vary wildly. On my site you will find an honest evaluation of the parts I sell. First, I compare repos to New Old Stock(N.O.S.) parts when ever I can. If I don't have a N.O.S. I will compare to used Original Equipment parts. In the case that I can't find or afford N.O.S. or Original parts, I will state so.

This page will be used to give you, the customer, questions to ask when buying parts from other vendors and e-bay. I am a little anal when it comes to correct parts so I don't expect too many reproduction items will be 100% .

Note : The old rule you get what you pay for doesn't always apply.

Junk (not useable without modification)

55-56-57 Z bars

1.) I bought three Z-bars (55,56 and 57 Chevy) from a big name tri-five dealer that were made from welded pipe instead of seamless tubing. The weld on the inside was still present, making it impossible for the engine and frame ballstuds to fit. This makes them unusable without additional machining or grinding.

2) Some vendors sell z-bars as 55-57 Chevy when they are actually three totally different parts with three different part numbers.

B.O.P Clutch release forks

OEMJunk
OEMJunk

1.) I bought two reproductions of Part # 9787069 from The Parts Place. One was fine the other wasn't bent on the bearing push side and a glob of weld on the rivet. I took photos and sent the bad one back, they sent me a new one with the same defects, when I called they said they were all like that and I could have my money back if I returned the fork. End result is 2/3 of the forks were bad and it cost me two (2) return postags to find out. I will try different (more expensive) sources.

Usable (should function as intended)
